The Old Ways
Now having five social media clients in very different fields has given me a new perspective. Everyone's idea of how to promote your business is different, from going strictly from brick stores to online stores, mailing flyers to emails and so much more.
I think the picture above says it all. Just a mere twenty years ago, everyone read the local newspaper and saw ads for their favorite stores. You purchased the size ad you could afford and put your best product or service out there.
Now that doesn't work as well. I would love to say, yes you can still place an ad, and new customers and old will flock to your door. But that is not reality. The fact is, newspaper ads are disappearing as fast as newspapers are.
Computers began really as a way to make typists get through tons of forms and letters faster. But a few creative geniuses added a few advertisements here and there and boom, the world change, one business at a time.
No one can tell you exactly which type of social media platform is going to work perfectly for you. Every business is diverse. Sometimes you have to try different ones to see where exactly your clientele reside. This may take some time and money. It will be worth it.
I would never tell one of my clients this will work absolutely, 100% for you. I don't know that and if someone tells you they do, they are wrong. The advertising world is changing every second. What they should say is, I believe this (Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) has the customer you are after and I would like to start your advertising here.
Be patient. Be creative. And they will come.
