Consistency Is Key
If you ever think why does Joe Schmo down the block who sales the same products that I do have more traffic and higher sales, then stay tuned. The answer is consistency. Stop and look at what Joe is doing to attract his customers. In the old days it was pretty simple, the business card. And I still believe you need business cards. We all meet so many people every day. Sometimes when I meet someone and they say something that really sticks with me, I will write it on the back of their business card because I will want to connect with them in the future. But today we have to drive a little further than just handing someone a card and hoping they remember us. And #consistency is key.
So just like any sports team who picks colors that their fans will remember, you want your customers to recognize you among your competitors. You know Lays Potato Chips is yellow. Home Depot is orange. I'm sure when you see a red circle with a dot in the middle of it you know that is Target. And why do you know that is Target? Because Target spent millions of dollars over the years making sure it stuck in your memory. They don't even have to say Target anymore, you know. You have to do the same thing for your brand. It doesn't really matter what color you choose, just use it routinely. So make sure you love it.
Let's say you are planning a fabulous sale to clear out old merchandise in preparation for new items coming in for fall. You put signs in your store for your customers to see this big three day sale and that is all you do. The event comes and it's a bust. What happened? You advertised right? Wrong. The only people who knew were the ones who were already in your store. Anytime you wish to entice your customers with something new, you have to showcase it through every social media platform you use. That means your Instagram page, on Twitter, your Facebook page, sending emails to your customer fanbase, the signs in your store, and any other advertising you use. This is the consistency that has to take place each time you wish to have a big turnout. In a sense, it really has to be a complete circle, each one rolling into another.
Customer loyalty is huge these days because it is so rare. Rare because most people will jump to whoever who has the lowest price and that may not always be you. The only way you can keep a customer is with the best service possible. Basically, the royal treatment. People want to feel special. They do remember when the sales clerk remembers their name and that their favorite color is purple. A customer doesn't forget that you called to say their car is finished four hours earlier then expected. It's the little things that make a one time customer turn into choosing you every time. If you take the time with them, they will chose you every time. They become a consistent customer.
Doing the things that work puts you above everyone else but it is an ongoing process. And consistency can pay off in every way possible.
