While watching television very late one night, I realized that it is impossible to miss a holiday in this country. Ads of Valentine day gifts repeated over and over, only to see a local business remind you to stop in and get your Mardi Gras King Cake. This delicacy only surfaces once a year, and the bakery was reminding me of this. Thank goodness I was up, or I might have missed it.
The fact that it is impossible to not know what month we are in by the marketing that is done. This gives advertisers the prime opportunity to pinpoint services and products that may sell at this time of the year. My client who owns a golf course is offering a great deal on memberships to wives who purchase one for their husbands. I'm sure this will be popular. I mean, what woman wouldn't relish the chance to have a few hours to herself every week while her husband plays a round of golf? I call this a win-win situation.
Every business should take advantage of holiday advertising. It reminds buyers that they need a special gift for their loved ones. And it allows you to move something that may be hanging around to long. Keep the ad simple, focus on the tie-in to the holiday and market early.
If you think I am wrong, look at your local supermarket. You will find Easter baskets in the aisles.
And this is February.
