Blogging...Today's Public Diary
With the invention of the internet, otherwise quiet, unassuming people have made a name for themselves by sitting behind a laptop and spilling out their thoughts. Whether they are discussing the latest in fashion or how to get your newborn to sleep, whatever particular talent God has bestowed on them is now available for the world to see. Blogging reminds me of the days when my diary was the only friend who didn't spill my secrets, except it's not.
I am the first to admit that promoting your company per your blog is a fabulous way to drive traffic to your website or brick building. But in the world of business, keep business business-like. Stating that cranberry red scarves work for everyone is fine, but proclaiming that ginger heads should steer clear is not. Be smart. Blogging can work as much for you as against you. If you need to vent your frustration over the kids soccer coach, set up a separate blog under your name and keep your personal and company life separate.
Never has there been a better time to learn that everything you say or do is probably being recorded by someone. And as we have seen in the news lately, it can be used against you. It is certainly okay to have opinions but be prepared to stand behind those statements.
Grab a laptop, grab a cup of something, and put your thoughts about your products or services out there for the world to see. Just remember. Once you give the key to your diary to the world, you never get it back.
